Sometimes I miss mindless eating...

Remember back pre-band when you could just eat without thinking about it? Now I do realize that is what got me into so much trouble to begin with, but it sure was simple! I could just decide what sounded good, obtain it, put it in my mouth and it always went from there to my stomach without incident. I didn't have to calculate how long it had been since I'd had something to drink. I didn't have to eat slowly, even if I was starving. I didn't have to take a bite so small that I wasn't even sure it was actually in my mouth. I didn't have to chew, chew, chew until it was ground so tiny it could easily pass through a space the diameter of a drinking straw. Nothing ever got "stuck" going down. And I never, ever, ever PB'd after getting stuck on bite #2 of a meal.

It goes without saying that the arrival of TOM never meant that I would be unable to consume food for 24 hours or more.

I hate to say it, but sometimes having a lap-band is a pain in the ass!

Don't get me wrong - I love my lap-band and I'm so glad I have it. I also know that the veteran bandsters say that stuck & PB episodes decrease with time and experience. But sometimes I do miss the mindless eating...

So funny you posted this b/c I think about this all the time, especially when I'm at a restaurant and someone is diving into a cheeseburger and all I can think of is "man, I miss that, I miss being able to take a big bite, not think about it, just enjoy!!! " I think that feeling won't ever go away!! although, the good things this lapband has brought us definitely outweigh a day of mindless eating!!!

Unfortunately, I feel that way all of the time.
Don't mind me...I'm in a mood and have absolutely no restriction.

It is kind of a pain in the ass. But I still wouldn't give it back...

I've found myself thinking about that too - pre band of course. You all being so candid is really helpful to have realistic expectations of what this is going be like. Trade offs for sure!

I have those feelings too sometimes...especially when I have the flu or something and want something comforting. I miss pizza too. And I hate it when everything tastes the same....stuck taste is what I call it or this morning gulping my cuppa tea and PBing it through my mouth and nose whilst I had all my makeup on....nice look. But I love the 52 lbs I have lost and feeling light and fitting into my clothes....I get it!!

I've only been banded about two weeks, but I have come to realize how much "mindless/habitual" eating I did. I associated every car trip somewhere near a favorite restaurant, or I always needed a snack before bed. Since I'm on liquids right now (beyond boring) anything seems like more work than it is worth...so I have been losing interest. I'm sure that will pass...I just want a Ritz cracker so darn bad! Something crunchy!!!

Welcome to the mourning food phase of weight loss :)...Mine hit around Christmas time the first year. I have had other mini-mourn fests since then.

I'm with Janice, I never realized how much I was eating out of habit! It's noon, time for a meal! It's 3, time for coffee and a snack! I'm home from work, how 'bout a treat? It's dinner, yum yum yum. All the dishes are done, dessert!

I *needed* that pain the ass to stay in line. I can't do it without it! Such is life, I guess. =)

I actually think about this very thing now and I'm not even banded yet. Sometimes I eat something I know I shouldn't and think, "dang soon I won't be able to do this anymore."

i remember the mindless eating days too. scary stuff. i've been thinking a lot about that recently as well. i think it's a summer thing. cuz we always eat worse in the summer cuz it's so damn hot we don't want to take the time to eat healthy. at least maybe that's it. i don't know. i wouldn't take it back either.
