Yummy, Yummy Ice Cream

There is a very small and equally unlikely chance that I may be eating ice cream every night of the week.  I know this seems hard to believe and, in truth, I am as shocked as you probably are.

It probably started with a Popsicle here and a cremesicle there.  It is, after all, quite hot and something cool after dinner probably seems like a reasonable thing to have.  Never mind that I don't normally eat sweets during the week, except on special occasions. 45 or 90 extra calories isn't going to hurt, right?  Somehow the nightly treat routine seems to have morphed into a nightly dessert routine.  A 230 calorie serving of ice cream?  Sure, why not?  Some peanut clusters on a Tuesday? Yes!  Bring it on!  An entire PINT of Ben & Jerry's Mint Chocolate Cookie ice cream?

WTF?  Okay, clearly I am need of some serious intervention here.  A PINT of ice cream is at least three (and maybe four) servings.  That is, oh, I don't know, at LEAST 900 calories.  And no, I don't know for sure because I DIDN'T EVEN LOOK!  Ugh!

This is not moderation.  This is literally too much of a good thing.   So I am going to lay off the ice cream and go back to my normal policy of eating sweets only on the weekends.  Luckily my weight hasn't (yet) been affected adversely by my little deviation into creamy, sweet ice-cream land.  But my peace of mind has been affected and that's a problem.

OMG...but it's icecream. I understand...just go back to your routine. Icecream is a dangerous thing for me. I can eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I have been on and off the same ice cream kick. I buy the single portions of the skinny cow now. My husband complains that $1 each is too expensive when you can buy an entire container for a lot less, but I'm good with the single serving. Somehow my brain rationalizes it by saying "Well, you are a little tight and things are harder to eat, so you do need your calories." Wish I had an answer for you!

Glad you didn't do any damage, I'm tempted to eat stuff like this every night - but I think you have the right of it, just on the weekend! :)

You can break the habit!

Hey, you're admitting it and you have a plan ... I'd say you are a success (that and the scale has ignored this - yippe) !

I'm with ya Amanda. Seriously it's one of the reasons ice cream isn't allowed in my house. when I have it, I go out for it. That's the rule. I'm so proud of you for recognizing and taking steps to correct! :)

I have a serious issue with ice cream too, BUT, last time I went grocery shopping I bought some of the single serving ice cream cups. They are 80 calories and 4 oz. That is definitely alot less than what I ate pre-band and it takes care of the craving. Maybe something like that will help.

It's 4 half cup sized servings and depending on the flavor, those servings can range from approx 250 calories to 450 calories PER SERVING. That's insane, right?

There's a great stand-up bit by Brian Regan where he explains that a serving size of Fig Newtons is the entire sleeve. I have to say that I agree. :)

I went through an ice cream phase last year after the car accident, where I wanted to eat it every day. You're probably mindlessly self-soothing something that's going on in your anxiety realm. I think that's what I attributed mine to.

I totally hear you on the Ice Cream!! It too is my Crack! I love it, and I always had at least 1-1.5 qt container while Walt was in Sacramento!!

Luckily for me (I guess), he is now working here in Nevada and will be home every night! So I can only have a small Ice Cream treat periodically again!! And YES, this has made my weight jump up significantly!!! And here I was hoping to lose a lot of weight before our trip to Hawaii!! All I did was sabotage myself....

I could eat ice cream all day and all night. Ice cream is no longer allowed in my house for that reason... if I really want an ice cream - we go for a walk to get it... the ice cream place is 35 minutes away. Makes me really work for it.

Like Rachel, ice cream is one (of many) foods we can't keep in the house at all... once it's here, it's GONE (into my mouth) faster than I can blink, it seems.

Not that I'd have any recent experience with this. Say weekly or so this summer, for example? *sigh*

Hang in there and kick that confection to the curb!! :)

Step away from the Ben & Jerry's and no one will get hurt!

I fell into this nightly routine not too long ago too. Honestly, I needed a week of NO treats to get past it. At first I found I just moved my treat to the afternoon. No bueno. I know you're a "everything in moderation" girl but I had to go cold turkey to get rid of the nightly craving. Once I did that, I was able to go back to only having something once in awhile. Good luck!

Sometimes the mental struggle is worse than the physical. Good for you wanting to get it under control before it DOES show on the scale.
