It's Monday again

Well, I had a craptastic weekend!  Yesterday we had a wind storm here in Oregon and I lost about 1/3 of the shingles off of my roof.  I sure could have done without that!  Actually other than that, the weekend was pretty nice.

In better news, my sister's sister-in-law gave me a bunch of clothes last week.  This person has always been someone I looked at and thought she had a great figure.  I can't believe that I am SMALLER than she is!  Not all of the clothes she gave me fit, but several pieces do.

Back to my roof...I called my dad (who used to be a roofer).  I don't really have any handy-man in my life other than him.  As soon as I told him what was going on (that the wind was ripping the shingles off my roof), he said he was sorry, but he didn't have time to help me.  I know I am a grown up and I know he just started a new job and I know he just got remarried in October BUT I feel really let-down.  He knows I don't have anyone else to help me and I don't have any money to hire someone.  I know it would be a hassle for him, but he does have the time.  I never ask him for anything.  He didn't pay for my wedding or my education.  The one time that I borrowed money from him as an adult, I paid him back and that was, oh, 20 years ago.  So I am disappointed, to say the least.

Oh, and I almost forgot!  I wrote one of my clients a check out of a closed account!  Oops!  I feel like an idiot.

I am sorry your dad isn't able to come through for you...I can understand your disappointment.

Can't you put a claim into your homeowners insurance for this? I know there is probably a deductible involved but its sure less than the whole thing.

That sucks Amanda, I'm so sorry. I hope things get better soon.

At least we didn't get hit with a tsunami this weekend! Are you close enough to the edge of Oregon that it would've affected you at all?

Sorry to hear about your roof. :( But Congrats on the clothes not fitting! BEST FEELING EVER!

Sorry about your roof and your dad! Here is a hint...call your local rental store for some handy man numbers. Typically they have a list of names that they give out to customers...these guys are normally tried and true and good guys. Especially because the rental stores rep is on the line. Try a mom and pop place instead of a big named store. Plus these guys may be willing to do more of a cash deal! Good luck. I'd help if I were near.

It's hard when someone lets you down like that :( especially family. I hope he sees sense and helps you out.

Well if you thought your SIL had a great figure - and you're smaller - then you obviously have a great figure too!

OH man, I'm so sorry! I totally get the disappointment. Sometimes parents suck. Good luck!

I am going to put it through my home owner's insurance. I expect that they'll give me the depreciated value of the repair cost so I doubt I'll be able to hire someone without putting some money into it. I think I'll try to do it myself. I used to work for my dad when I was a teenager and have helped roof several houses, but I've never done it myself and I haven't done it for 20 years. Maybe he'll hear my plan and take pity on me!

I'm about an hour from the coast so no tsunami danger here, but it definately hit the Oregon coast and caused some damage. I do feel that my problems are insignificant when compared to what the people of Japan are experiencing. But it still sucks!

This stinks. Especially the letdown from your dad. It stings no matter how old you are. (Well, for me anyhow).

I am sorry your Dad isn't going to help you out. Sometimes parents do things without realizing they are hurting their kids. Maybe he will think about your situation and come to your aid. If not, your homeowners insurance can help. YOu may not need a whole roof. They may be able to just replace the shingles that came off. That storm was sure a doozy wasn't it? We were lucky and sustained no damage to our home. Our neighbors shingles were standing straight up when we passed by his house. We were getting hailed on sidewards on our way through town. Crazy weather!!

I've come to understand over the years that we put our parents up on a pedestal, and it's such a disappointmentand very hurtful to us when they turn out to be far more human than we ever imagined.I do hope your father understands that this is a time you really need him. Take care.

Fixing shingles is actually really easy. The hardest part is getting on the roof and matching the shingle color. You can do this.

I finally found it under the "Settings" tab (on your Posts Listings page), then look for the 'Comments' choice near the top as one of the pages under settings...it gives you all the settings you have for your comments (Word Verification is one of them).

Sorry about Dad...that is disappointing.

I don't have anything to add that someone hasn't already said, but I couldn't imagine how devastated I'd be if my dad let me down like that. :( I'm sorry, sweetie.

That sucks. I'd be disappointed too. I agree with another poster that advised looking into your homeowners' policy. I know my parents have replaced their own shingles before (where just a few needed to be replaced) and neither of them really had any experience. Good luck!

you should be able to get insurance money to help with the shingles. I hate that you fell let down by your dad. I hope your week is better than monday!
