I don't want to write it down

All of the sudden I don't feel like writing down my food.  And I haven't done it in a week or so.  I'm not sure if I should be concerned by my reluctance or if I should just accept it as a logical step.

I didn't write down my food most of the time I was actively losing weight.  During the first couple months post-op, I kept track and then at the first of this year I started again because I had stopped losing.

I could either be lulling myself into a situation where I'll be eating too much or I could just be tired of keeping track and ready to spread my wings a bit.

What do you guys think?  Do you write down your food?  When do you think people should stop?

I go through periods where I don't write down my food but then I find myself slipping and justifying things because I don't have them staring back at me in print.

Maybe try it out, you could be reaching that point where don't need that accountability. If it doesn't work you can just go back to writing it down.

I keep a record of what I eat each day - mainly to make sure I am eating enough protein and that I am eating enough calories!

I have about 40 more pounds to go and that is another reason why I keep track .... now once I get to my goal weight I won't be so intent on the records.

I know someone who does not keep records at all and she is doing fantastically so I guess it is up to each of us what works best for us.

I have to admit that I stopped actively tracking my food. I really should do better and really be able to track my nutrient intake, but I've gotten lazy/complacent, i guess. You're not alone in feeling this way!

I think I would stop keeping track if I didn't gain weight....I wonder if I could stop? I've been doing it for so long!

Overall, I do not track my food. I tracked for a little bit at the very beginning and again in December because I was struggling. I find it helps put everything in perspective and I usually see something I was missing before. Once I ID a problem, I don't do it anymore.

I was very diligent in writing down my food every day when I was in the losing mode. Now in maintenance, I do write down a few days a week.

I'm still only 8 weeks post op so I'm still in the honey moon phase I guess. I jot down everything on caloriecount.com. I started at first just to make sure I was getting in enough protein, but I also like to keep my calories within a range and that helps me there too. It's interesting, I never would have thought 1/2 a burger that I ate a few weeks ago would be 750 calories. Sure enough it was though. I say for you, having met your goal and basically in maintenance...don't track for a while and see how things go for you. If the weight starts creeping back on you'll know what to do again. Tracking feels a bit like dieting to me...and I know dieting is absolutely NOT your thing. Let us know how it goes for you.

I don't, but I probably should. As for when to stop, I guess it's one of those things that's different for everyone.

I have only tracked my food twice in 9 months - by twice I mean two days. As I have said on my blog, I FREAKING REFUSE. I am listening to my body instead. I will not diet. No way. But this doesn't work for everyone - it has worked for me.

I only start writing it down if I notice that I am messing up. I have been pretty good so far but I know it helps people stay on task.

I've never written down my food, except for possibly the first week straight after surgery when I needed to know I was getting all the fluids/nutrients I needed. I think that maybe over here in the UK, we are not given as much advice/follow-up care with regards diet/nutrition as you seem to get in the US.
